Fleas
I don't know whether to consider today the first day of school, or the first day of a possible turn of the tide in the war against the fleas. The flea infestation here has grown to a positively monstrous scale. All of the cats were riddled with them, and constantly looked like they had been rolling in dirt (covered in flea poop, as I understand). I couldn't even walk across the living room floor without having half a dozen jump up on my ankles. Tamara even started getting bit, although it's a wonder she held out as long as she did considering both of the kittens tend to sleep with her.
I found out last night that Avon Skin-So-Soft acts as a bug repellant. As a rep, we're not allowed to promote it that way, but I found reference after reference praising its effectiveness. So I put some on my feet and legs last night...and no more flea getting me in the living room! I let the kids start bathing with it tonight, especially Tamara. Hopefully that will start to cut down on the biting.
Pixel had a vet appointment today. He had a terrible ear mite infestation, along with the fleas. I don't know where he could have picked it up, and the vet didn't understand it, either. She said they are not contagious, and usually only get picked up if a cat goes outside. But he's never been outside! They tried to get a urine sample, but couldn't. They put him on antibiotics anyway, so if that's why he's been peeing on the carpet, he should stop soon.
And the piece de resistance...Flea Control! All three cats got an oral treatment that started killing fleas within 30 minutes, plus topical skin treatment that will last at least two weeks. Disgusting as it is to clean up, I never saw a lovelier sight that all the dead fleas that suddenly appeared around the house. Wherever the cats have gone today, they've left dead fleas behind. Even in their water dish! Or even better, sick, struggling fleas. Yeah, I'm a cold-hearted bitch....DIE FLEAS DIE!!!!!
I had to remake Tamara's bed tonight. The kittens got up there and started scratching...ugh! Nasty nasty nasty nasty! I'll probably have to remake it again tomorrow night. Fleas and flea poop everywhere!
I really really hate this. I hope it never happens again. I want to know where this curse came from. We've never had it this bad!
Next up...Borax...on EVERYTHING!
